Downloading Public Key Infrastructure/Enabling (PKI/PKE) Certificates
In order to log in remotely using your CAC, you must have PKI certificates installed on your computer. This guide will show you how to download and install these certificates.
Download and Install InstallRoot
1. Navigate to https://public.cyber.mil/ click Public Key Infrastructure/Enabling (PKI/PKE) from the PKI/PKE drop down menu in the top right corner
2. Select the TOOLS option.
3. From the list select InstallRoot 5.5 NIPR Non-Administrator 32-bit Windows Installer.
4. After the installer downloads from your browser, select Run.
5. Through the next series of prompts, select Next and continue using default settings until the software is installed.
6. After InstallRoot is installed, when prompted, click Run InstallRoot.
7. Verify that Install DoD Certificates has a green checkmark under Microsoft Current User. Once verified, click Install Certificates.
8. After the certificates are installed, the 0InstallRoot Certificate Action Summay screen rshould appear. Verify the installation was successful.
9. If the summary screen does not appear, uninstall InstallRoot 5.5 and attempt to reinstall.
Verification of DoD Certificates Installation
1. Using the search command, find and open the Control Panel.
2. Click Network and Internet.
3. Select Internet Options.
4. Within the Content tab, click Certificates.
5. Navigate to the Trusted Root Certification Authorities tab and verify DoD Root CA [#] are populating.
6. Navigate to the Intermediate Certification Authorities tab and verify DoD EMAIL CA-[#]” and “DOD ID CA-[#] are populating.
